A 501(c)(3) nonprofit built on storytelling, resources, and advocacy.
It started in 2014 with the Princes and Tiaras Prom Project in the Washington, DC metro area — a community charity that became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2020.
And before that, it started inside one family. Years of visits, distance, and showing up anyway. That’s why we do this work.
We serve young people ages 12 to 24 impacted by parental incarceration, and justice-impacted youth — along with the caregivers and families who support them.
Everything we do lives under one model: three pillars, one mission.
Pillar one: Storytelling and Advocacy. For Kids Like Me, our docuseries in development, and the Storytelling Masterclass. Plus public education and advocacy that shifts how these families are understood.
Pillar two: Family and Caregiver Support. The MFGP Resource Hub — being built — with the Caregiver’s Safe Harbor Toolkit, the #FKLM Family Blueprint, and Vetted Resource Pathways.
Pillar three: Opportunities and Pathways. Empower Justice mentorship. The Crafters Workshop. And the Pathways to Prosperity Retreat, in development.
Recognition too — like Anyé Young’s 2026 Osborne Fellowship, a program of the Osborne Association.
And in 2026, our first national workshop, presented at Arizona State University.

Our Mission
A platform for young storytellers.
At MyFairyGodParents.org (MFGP), we believe in the transformative power of storytelling. Our mission is to provide a platform that amplifies the voices of underserved youth in low-income communities through the art of filmmaking. We are dedicated to encouraging diverse, inclusive, and authentic content creation that reflects the unique perspectives and realities of these young storytellers.
In addition, we aim to empower justice-impacted youth and their families by offering comprehensive support, resources, and advocacy. Through education, mentorship, and family engagement, we strive to create an inclusive and informed community where every young individual, regardless of their circumstances, has the opportunity to thrive.
Who We Serve
Youth ages 12–24 impacted by parental incarceration, justice-impacted youth, and the families around them.
MFGP serves youth ages 12–24 impacted by parental incarceration and justice-impacted youth — often classified by funders as Opportunity Youth or Transition-Age Youth (TAY) — along with the caregivers and families who support them.
That includes young people with a currently or formerly incarcerated parent or loved one, and young people with their own justice-system involvement — court involvement, detention, probation, parole, diversion, or reentry.
Justice-impacted youth ages 12–24 are eligible for MFGP mentorship, workshops, youth coaching, the retreat concept, resource access, and scholarship referrals — whether the system contact is a parent's, a loved one's, or their own.
Opportunity Youth
Young people who are disconnected from school or work — including those affected by a parent’s incarceration — and who are ready for mentorship, creative outlets, and a real path forward.
Justice-Impacted Youth
Young people with their own justice-system involvement — court involvement, detention, probation, parole, diversion, or reentry — who need advocacy, education pathways, and adults who do not flinch.
Transition-Age Youth (TAY)
Older teens and young adults aging out of systems of care — foster care, juvenile justice, or kinship placement — who need stability, skills, and supportive adults as they step into adulthood.
We also serve the people who hold these young lives together: caregivers and kinship families, returning parents, educators, and the youth-serving programs and agencies that walk alongside them.

Our Story
Every child holds a story worth telling.
The work that became My Fairy GodParents began as a community charitable initiative in 2014. MFGP became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2020 as its mission evolved toward For Kids Like Me and support for children and families impacted by parental incarceration. In 2026, MFGP expanded into a resource-driven hub connecting storytelling and advocacy with practical support for youth, caregivers, families, and returning parents.
Our Evolution

LaDàna Young began the charitable work that would become My Fairy GodParents, starting with the first in-person Princes & Tiaras Prom Project.
- 2019Community work & visibility
Years of Prom Project and family support culminated in a virtual giveaway and media visibility on WUSA9's Great Day Washington.
- 2020501(c)(3) nonprofit
MFGP became a formal 501(c)(3), focusing intentionally on For Kids Like Me and children and families impacted by parental incarceration.
- 2026A resource hub
After the ASU workshop in Arizona, MFGP evolved into a practical resource and support hub for youth, caregivers, families, returning parents, and partners.

This powerful documentary film project, currently in development, delves deep into the impact of mandatory minimum sentencing laws on families of incarcerated individuals, with a specific focus on the children affected.
