What this is
A short script and packet checklist for requesting a strong recommendation letter.
Why it matters
A recommender who has details writes a specific letter. A recommender who has nothing writes a generic one.
What you should know
- Ask at least three weeks before the deadline, in person or by email.
- Give the recommender a short list of what you did in their class or program.
- Include the deadline, submission method, and what the award is for.
- Send a thank-you note afterward regardless of the outcome.
Your next step
Name two adults who have seen your work and could speak to it.
